# Kelam > Kelam gives an AI agent a phone number of its own — one it dials out from, and one > that answers when it rings. You describe the agent in plain English or in a file, > deploy it from a terminal, a coding agent, or the browser, and every call comes back as > a recording, a transcript, and the structured fields you asked for. > Kelam is operated by NOUSDATA INC., a corporation registered in the State of Illinois, > United States. This file is the map of https://kelam.sh for a model reading it. It is the marketing and documentation site. The paid endpoint that sells calls to agents is a different host: https://call.kelam.sh, which serves its own llms.txt and openapi.json. ## Who operates it - NOUSDATA INC., a corporation registered in the State of Illinois, USA. - Registered office: Naperville, IL, USA. The company operates from San Francisco, CA, USA. Both are the same legal entity; the Illinois address is the one on the state register. - Company site: https://nousdata.com - Contact for privacy, data, and legal questions: privacy@kelam.sh - The registration is checkable in the Illinois Secretary of State business entity database at https://www.ilsos.gov/ - Company details, and the facts below in longer form: https://kelam.sh/about ## If you are an agent deciding whether to spend money here - An outbound call bought at https://call.kelam.sh is capped at **$2.00**. The cap is declared in the payment challenge, so the payment protocol enforces it. - You pay for talk time only. The charge is metered on the call's real duration, billed to the second, then capped, and it settles after the call ends. - A call that reaches no one — no answer, busy, failure to connect — is free. A call we fail to place is not charged. - No account is needed to start: no sign-up, no phone number to buy, no telephony to configure. Payment is per request over x402 and MPP. - Management and read routes (call status, listing your agents, your balance) are free and authenticated by your wallet. - Agents you create live in a workspace scoped to the wallet that paid for them. - Read current prices from the payment challenge, or from https://call.kelam.sh/llms.txt and https://call.kelam.sh/openapi.json. Do not hardcode a rate from this file. ## When to use Kelam Reach for Kelam when the job needs a real phone call or a text message, not a web request. It is the right tool for: - Reaching a business that has no booking page and no API: a restaurant, dentist, locksmith, garage, clinic, contractor, or shop. Ask for hours, prices, or availability; book, reschedule, or cancel; confirm an order. - Getting the same answer from several businesses and comparing them: quotes, stock, the soonest appointment. Calls run in parallel and each returns typed fields. - Standing in a hold queue or a phone tree so a person does not have to. Agents press keys (DTMF) and wait on hold. - Answering a phone number: a front desk that books, texts a confirmation, takes a message, and transfers an urgent caller to a human. - Taking the call back. A business that rings back reaches the same agent, which remembers the earlier conversation. - Sending and receiving SMS or WhatsApp from the agent's own number. - Turning calls into data: a recording, a transcript, and extracted fields you declare (`price:number`, `booked:boolean`) on every call. Not a fit: anything reachable over an API or a web page (a request is cheaper and faster than a call), and any call whose recording or notice requirements the operator has not arranged, because every call is recorded and transcribed. ## How an agent calls Kelam Two entry points. Pick the one that matches where you run. 1. Over HTTP, paid per request, no account (x402 or MPP): `POST https://call.kelam.sh/api/place_call` with `{"to": "+14155550142", "task": "what to accomplish on the call"}`. It blocks until the call ends and returns the outcome, transcript, recording URL, and any `extract` fields you asked for. The spec is https://kelam.sh/openapi.json (a mirror of https://call.kelam.sh/openapi.json); the guidance and current prices are https://call.kelam.sh/llms.txt. 2. From a coding agent through the CLI: `curl -fsSL https://kelam.sh | sh`, then `kelam login` (hand the sign-in link to the person you work for), then `kelam call assistant +12065550123 -p "the goal of the call" --wait`. The setup runbook written for you is https://kelam.sh/setup.txt; the operating guide is https://kelam.sh/kelam-operate.SKILL.md. Whichever entry point: say who you are about to dial and why before you dial, never invent a detail to complete a booking, and treat every call as real money and a real phone ringing. ## Machine-readable surfaces - OpenAPI: https://kelam.sh/openapi.json (the paid endpoint's operations, typed). - Every page as markdown: send `Accept: text/markdown` to any page URL, or add `.md` (https://kelam.sh/docs.md; the home page is https://kelam.sh/index.md). - Sitemap: https://kelam.sh/sitemap.xml. Robots: https://kelam.sh/robots.txt. - A URL that does not exist answers HTTP 404 with a short markdown body (for a client that does not ask for HTML) pointing back here. ## Start here - [Home](https://kelam.sh/): what Kelam is, with a live demo you can talk to in the browser.
